Osiris FMS™ - Funeral Management System: Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Will Osiris FMS run on my PC System/Network?
A. Osiris FMS Version 4 (current release 20th Anniversary Edition) is designed to run on most
modern PC Systems running one of the following operating systems:
- Microsoft Windows XP, Vista and 7 desktop editions.
- Network version runs on Microsoft Windows 2000 (SP4), 2003 and 2008 Server editions
The recommended minimum PC Specification is:
Intel Pentium 4 CPU (or equivalent) or higher with minimum 1024Mb RAM
SVGA graphics card and monitor running at a resolution of 1024x768 or higher
Initial free disk space required for application is 25 - 50Mb
Printed output can be to any printer that is supported by the operating system, although a
good quality laser or ink jet printer is recommended for the best quality print.
Osiris 3 single user edition will run on:
- Microsoft Windows 95, 98, 2000, Millenium Edition, or XP
- Microsoft Windows NT4 Server (with all SPs), 2000 Server (SP4) , 2003 Server
- Novell Netware Server OS v.3.12 or higher
The recommended minimum PC Specification is Intel Pentium III or higher with 128Mb RAM,
an SVGA graphics card and monitor running at a resolution of 800x600 or higher, with a CD-
ROM and a 10Gb HDD with a reasonable amount of free space (program is approximately
15Mb, but larger swap file will allow for better performance). However we would suggest that
256Mb RAM or higher offers a far greater level of performance.
Q. Will Osiris FMS integrate with my existing applications?
A. Documents can be output to an external word processor such as Microsoft Word or Sun
Open Office Write , and financial details can be output to Sage Line 50. E-mails may be sent
directly from Osiris (requires internet access and e-mail account). PDF files can also be
generated, and attached to e-mail from within the system.
Q. Can I design my own letters and reports?
A. Osiris FMS offers a set of comprehensive templates for a variety of documents and reports
all of which can be modified by the end user to generate customised output. Using the report
explorer/editor the user can create whole new templates to suit their exact requirements.
During the trial period, and for the first 30 days after a new client purchases the system, we
offer a free document and report customisation service. Subsequently, we may make a small
nominal charge for any additional changes, or new reports that are requested by the client, at
our discretion.
Q. What about program updates?
A. Osiris 4 can be configured to automatically check for updates and install them from the
Internet. All updates are free to everyone during the trial period and the first year after
purchase. Subsequently updates are free to those customers who have purchased an annual
support registration. If you don’t have an Internet connection, you may request to receive
updates on CD. Internet updates are available as soon as they are released. CD updates
are now only published once a year when we release new trial versions. Osiris 3 is no longer
under development, so no updates are issued, but you may upgrade to Osiris 4 at any time
by paying the current list price difference.
A. Minor issues can normally be resolved by either e-mail or telephone support. We also
offer a web based help-desk allowing us to remotely, and securely, login and take temporary
control of an end user’s PC. This allows us not only to resolve any issues but to show the
client how the issue was resolved in many cases. For clients with network systems we
generally recommend that we have a permanently available remote connection to their server
to enable us to continue to work on issues that may require out of hours access or
unattended server reboots.

The web based help-desk service that we use, and the software that we prefer to deploy to
servers, is provided by Log Me In, if you have an concerns about encryption standards or
other security issues feel free to have a look at their website. They also offer a free, basic,
version of the software that many of our clients now also use for accessing their own systems
remotely when on holiday or otherwise out of the office.
We also provide mobile telephone contact details and Skype voice and messaging support to
our clients. This information is not published here, in an attempt to reduce the amount of
unsolicited messages, and calls that we receive. Skype is particularly useful when used in
conjunction with LogMeIn for supporting users remotely and discussing problems. Skype
calling is also a great way to save money when calling abroad, or calling mobile numbers, to
download your free copy and learn more about the other potential benefits associated with
