Osiris FMS™ - Funeral Management System: History
Ash, then trading as Roger Ash & Associates Micro-computer Consultants, with a brief to
develop a software package to make the running of his business less labour intensive and
easier to manage. After many months of development the final product was presented to Mr
Towner, and deployed across a local area network comprising of a Novell server with PC-
DOS based workstations, the very cutting edge of technology at the time!
Edward Towner was very pleased with the end product and it was agreed that he and Roger
would found a new company with the sole purpose of further developing the product with a
view to marketing it to independent funeral directors throughout the UK. The company Ash
Towner Ltd. was established, and the Osiris brand was launched.
Osiris 2 was launched a couple of years later, still running on PC-DOS or MS-DOS platform.
Osiris FMS 3 developed and released throughout 1996 - 1997 was the first version of the
product to run on windows based platforms.
The current version of Osiris FMS, version 4 20th Anniversary Edition, is regularly updated
and enhanced based on feedback and ‘wish-list’ requests from our current user base. Thanks
to the advent of widely available and affordable broadband services over these updates can
now be delivered automatically to clients as they are released.
Roger Ash is still responsible for the ongoing development of this package and is our senior
support adviser for the Osiris FMS package. Edward Towner continues to provide us with
valuable advice, and access to a wealth of knowledge regarding the current needs of the
funeral service industry, which is greatly appreciated.
We would also like to express our thanks to some of our other clients who have, over the last
few years, provided many good suggestions for new features and enhancements to the
product which have been included in updates wherever possible. These include:
: Reading, Bracknell, Henley & Wokingham
